Wedding photography at DeVere New Place, Hampshire – Trefor & Donna

Well yesterday was a technical think-day (not in a bad way I add) with a very bright and low sun.  No complaints from me though as the autumn colours were technicolour glorious, the air was warm and people were beaming smiles adorned with sunglasses.  Blue cloudless skies and a myriad of warm autumn tones kicks ar*e over dreary grey skies and wind any day of my shooting life!!

Anyway, waxing lyrically aside, yesterday kicked off with a sunny drive to New Place to meet up with Trefor/Donna & co. and shoot the bride and groom preps. (sooooo much cooler when a couple get ready at their venue!  “Relaaaaaaax Such, no frenetic dashing about”) and my first stop was obviously with Donna as Trefor was busy in the Arden Suite early on setting up tables for their Reception.  So I was greeted by a happy, bouncy Donna full of excitment so I got straight into shooting helped along with a few coffees of course!  Trefor eventually finished setting up the Arden Suite so I met up with the groomsmen mid-morning to catch their chaotic room activities- suit hire bags hanging eveywhere, shoe boxes and tissue wadding strewn about on every available surface and blokes in various stages of getting dressed and helping each other with cufflinks and cravats, standard bloke stuff on wedding mornings!  By contrast Donna and her gang were calmly getting ready.

The cars arrived promptly and we all headed to Fareham for T&D’s church blessing (they’d sneeked off a couple of days previous to do the legalities at the local Registry Office) which was both beautiful and funny, beautiful as sunshine was streaming through the church windows and funny as T&D’s youngest daughter was ‘rather mobile’ during the blessing!

A few group formals outside and then I sent everyone packing back to New Place so I could get 10mins of quiet time with T&D to shoot a few portraits, before jumping in the cars ourselves and following the guest.

We arrived back at New Place to the volumous soundtrack of a 16 piece steel drum band- they were amazing and coupled so well to the beautiful weather and cricket match being played on the lower lawn.  Everyone was smiling in the sun, snacking on canapes and Pimms and jigging about on the spot to the steel band whilst chatting happily to each other.  Perfect opportunity to shoot a stack of natural- box ticked!

I managed to steal T&D away for another portrait session as everyone was being shown to the Arden Suite to be seated for the Wedding Breakfast (Beef Wellington- it was delicious btw!) and then they follwed their guests to be announced in.  Speeches  followed, the sun had set, the evening guests were arriving and the party started with their [cheese]cake cutting and first dance.  The dance floor was busy all night with music being supplied by Eclipse Mobile Disco.  The party rocked.  Another beautiful wedding day shot and wonderful memories captured 🙂

Family portrait session on Hayling Beach, Hampshire – the Barney’s

I’d already photographed Esme at 6mnths, and was asked to photograph her again today as she had her 1st Birthday last week and we wanted to use her helium Birthday Balloon. It was a glorious day today and the Barney’s were my second jaunt over to Hayling Island to shoot a family portrait session, although both sessions were shot at different locations.

This was Esme’s first experience of sand and we used a secluded sandy spot I know (used it a few times before) and with some lovely backlit light from a lowish sun filled in with a wink of off-camera fill, we created some lovely memories for the Barney’s 🙂 x

Family portrait session on Hayling Beach, Hampshire – the Constables

First family portrait shoot of the day done- quick break before my next one this afternoon to pen a blog post!

I’ll be shooting Jon & Kerri’s wedding next month up at Old Thorns Manor Hotel which has an amazing backdrop for my photography, and being mainly green and trees, we chose a beach/seaside backdrop for this portrait session as something a bit different for them. Jon, Kerri and their son Josh (Jon’s Best Man next month) trucked down south for the morning to CSiHQ and we all jumped in my car and headed over to Hayling Island to see what we could find. I did have a plan as much as having a couple of ideas for locations (local knowledge again) and as usual just made it up on the spot. I went with a more suggestive style to get them used to how I’ll be on their wedding day- suggestive not directive! They seemed to be fine with it, although Kerri did just mention as they left, that previously the thought of being posed would’ve horrified her! My calming natural style of posing must work hahaha…

So three portrait locations later and a quick cuppa whilst I wait for my next shoot, and I’ll be back over there this afternoon (have a different location planned this time (local knowledge does reign supreme sometimes!)

Wedding photography at Portsmouth Marriott Hotel, Hampshire – Steve & Lisa

Wowzers for the Dazzlers.. another all day wedding at Portsmouth Marriott yesterday for Steve and Lisa. This week everything was held on site (preps, ceremony, reception) so made for a less hectic day for me, which is always kool! Although a Bridal Party spread out over 3 rooms with hair, makeup and details equally spread out did test my wedding planning skills slightly. So there were plenty of preps and details to shoot early on and a 12:30h ceremony time meant everything was squeezed into a shorter timeframe and before we knew it, it was wedding time. I’d left the girls a bit earlier to hook up with Steve and his Groomsmen briefly pre-ceremony to catch any nervous looks (wasn’t disapointed there) and then Lisa was announced into the room looking resplendent.

Their ceremony went without a hitch and afterwards a drinks reception was held in the rear garden, which let me crack on with shooting my naturals followed by relaxed family formals- I say formals but we shot them in a very relaxed manner. Always nice to be given free reign!

On our pre-wedding chat a couple of weeks previous, we’d discussed using the nearby Portchester Castle for the Bride and Groom portraits, so we bundled Lisa into the back of the car, squeezed Steve into the front and chauffered them up the road to the castle where we shot some styled/relaxed portraits with a mix of ambient light and off-camera flash. Awesome!

Stuffed backed into the car, we headed back for a quick drink break (whilst I shot their room details) and then I sat down for a rest whilst they scoffed. Speeches followed and Steve was hilarious- I felt sorry for Paul (steve’s best mate and Best Man) having to follow that, but he did alright!

An evening of drunken revelry and dancing captured and I finished off their Collection, as I like to do, with a final brief portrait shoot at night. Mega. Cheers guys for an awesome day and thanks to the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel for looking after me again 🙂 x
